The Montana LLC is fairly anonymous in its basic form.  The members of an LLC are its owners, and the managers of the Montana LLC are its managers. 

The Montana LLC members or managers do not show up on the Secretary of States’ website when doing a name search.  You’ll see the name of the Montana LLC, the registered agent, and principal business address.  We list our address as the principal address, and we show up as the registered agent, so nothing really gets seen. 

We typically form the LLCs as manager managed; so even if someone did find the names of the managers they technically wouldn’t know who actually are the members.

Someone could order a certified copy of the articles of organization and find out who the managers and members were that were listed on those articles.

Also, some day the State of Montana could start showing more information on their website. 

The Montana DMV will not release information about vehicles registered under a Montana LLC name or anyone’s name for that matter, unless someone has a court order, a private investigator license, or an order from a state official.

So the reality is that you are pretty safe as far as anonymity goes with your Montana LLC.

How to be OVERLY anonymous:

If you are that concerned with it, we do have an additional option for you.  We can form a New Mexico LLC or a Wyoming LLC and list that LLC as the manager of your Montana LLC.  In New Mexico and Wyoming, we can form the LLC without listing members or managers.

Here are the different options:

New Mexico LLC:

-No annual report fees
-$125 a year registered agent service fee
-Takes about 1 month or 2-3 days if you pay to expedite

Wyoming LLC:
-$325
-$50 annual report due each year.  The report is due on the first of the month a year after you formed the LLC.
-$125 a year registered agent service fee
-Takes about 5 business days or 3 days if you pay to expedite

So with this option, we first form your New Mexico or Wyoming LLC with no members or managers listed on that company.  That company literally never does anything, but gets listed as the manager of the Montana LLC.  The Montana LLC then owns your real estate like RVs, airplanes, etc…

Neither LLC gets a tax ID.  The New Mexico or Wyoming LLC does no business activity.  The Montana LLCs business activity is owning your titled assets.
